RICHARD G. WOLFISH, CPA
Richard Wolfish works closely with the owners of entrepreneurial businesses, advising them on a wide range of topics, including tax planning, estate planning, inventory valuation, and pension and profit sharing. He has a strong background in international taxation, having structured outbound transactions for U.S. companies doing business abroad and inbound transactions for foreign corporations doing business in the United States.
Rick came to the firm in 1992 from Miami, Florida, where he served as a senior tax manager with BDO Seidman. Rick was one of eight CPAs firm-wide selected to be on BDO's National, State and Local Tax Specialty Group, which provided advice on multi-state taxation to all branches of the firm. With states aggressively trying to raise as much revenue as possible, state and local tax planning are now deemed to be as important as federal tax planning.
Known as an exceptionally good communicator, Rick is interviewed frequently by the Burlington Free Press for tax-related stories; he has also appeared on local television news, and has testified before the Vermont House Ways and Means Committee, in an effort to help control Vermont taxation. When Rick lived in Florida, he was often quoted in the Miami Herald and interviewed on Miami television news. In addition, Rick has published several articles in The Tax Advisor, a prestigious professional journal, and is a frequent public speaker, addressing civic, social, and professional organizations on current tax issues and concerns.
Rick graduated cum laude from San Francisco State University in 1978 with a degree in business administration and accounting. In addition, Rick is a member of the Tax Technical Working Group, a new committee to improve communication between the Vermont Department of Taxation and Vermont Tax Professionals.
