What's a Vermont Executive Worth in 2003?

Burlington, VT -January 15, 2003-"Everyone knows that executive compensation varies widely by size of company and industry, but there was little reliable data for the types of companies prevalent in Vermont," explained Michael D. Flynn, managing partner of Burlington, Vermont-based Gallagher, Flynn & Company, LLP when he commented on the Firm's recent survey.

The 40-page, Vermont Executive Compensation Survey Report describes how compensation increases with organization size for the chief executive officer and the top operating, financial, information technology and human resources executives of over 200 Vermont companies and non-profits.

Many of the survey's results were unexpected. "We expected more differences between manufacturing and non-manufacturing companies, and between Chittenden County and the rest of the state. Some salary ranges were significantly below both national data and data we have collected from our recruiting business," observed Frank Sadowski, the survey author and Gallagher Flynn's HR Consulting Division partner.

Sadowski continued, "One unanticipated finding is that incentive compensation programs are underutilized in Vermont, compared to national averages."
In addition to consulting on compensation issues, GFC's HR Division helps companies with recruiting, labor relations, outplacement, and other HR issues.
